The Diabetes Foundation, in partnership with Diabetes UK, is inviting applications for two new and exciting Research Fellowship schemes to begin during 2008.
The purpose of these prestigious awards is to support research into some aspect of the causes, treatment or cure of Type 1 diabetes.
The Fellowship schemes have been established by the Diabetes Foundation and Diabetes UK to enable young scientists to train and develop their skills and knowledge in an area of Type 1 diabetes research.
The first fellowship, a post-doctoral training fellowship, has been established to enable young researchers who have been working in an area that is not directly related to diabetes to undertake research training in an area of direct relevance to the health and wellbeing of people with Type 1 diabetes.
The second fellowship, a post-doctoral travelling fellowship, has been established to enable young researchers with a proven track record working in Type 1 diabetes research to undertake research training in an area of direct relevance to the health and wellbeing of people with Type 1 diabetes in a laboratory outside the UK; with provision for the successful Fellow to return to the UK for a period of no less than one year at the end of the Fellowship.
Applicants for both schemes would be expected to have up to three years' experience as a post-doctoral researcher in either a basic or clinical environment. As with all fellowship schemes, applicants must have a sponsor in place before applying and Diabetes UK does not accept applications from those without a sponsor.
