A new information pack, aimed at health professionals and public sector advisors, is proving useful in keeping them up-to-date about the help that is available for disabled people and their families through the Motability Scheme.

Motability, the leading car scheme for disabled people, works closely with the Department for Work and Pensions and the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency. Over 450,000 disabled people currently use the Motability Scheme to get a new car, powered wheelchair or scooter and 97% of them would recommend it to their friends. A further 1.3 million disabled people are eligible to join but haven't taken advantage of doing so. Many of them may be unaware that they can or do not know enough about the way the Scheme works.

The information pack will help to spread the word and provides practical information on advising disabled people about becoming mobile and includes:

-- All You Need to Know to Help and Advise leaflet which provides information on how the Scheme works, the types of vehicles and adaptations available, and financial assistance.

-- Guide to Motability which provides general information about the charity, the Motability Scheme and its history.

-- A DVD featuring Motability customers, which explains everything about the Scheme and how it helps them. The DVD includes options to view with subtitles, British Sign Language and in alternative languages.

-- A reply-paid postcard and pen for ordering free stocks of any Motability literature for the office, public waiting areas or to hand out.
