Einstein's Dr. Solomon Moshe Receives International Honor For His Contributions & Achievements In The Biomedical Sciences

Solomon Moshe, M.D., professor of neurology, of pediatrics, and of neuroscience at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, was recently awarded the Jan Evangelista Purkyne Honorary Medal from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in the biomedical sciences.

Dr. Moshe is particularly renowned for his research of and clinical work with epilepsy, most notably his multiple discoveries related to understanding the mechanisms underlying age-related differences in epilepsy in humans and animal models. These findings opened the door to exploring epilepsy in the developing brain.

A frequently sought-after lecturer, he has published widely - in more than 300 publications -- and currently serves on editorial boards for the journals Pediatric Neurology, Epileptic Disorders, Progress in Epileptic Disorders. He also is an associate editor for Neurobiology of Disease.

In addition to his clinical and research contributions, Dr. Moshe has helped to shape the careers of many future scientists and clinicians, having served as mentor to countless predoctoral and postdoctoral candidates, and as an advisor to more than 100 fellows within the fields of clinical neurophysiology and child neurology. He currently serves as principal investigator on a grant devoted to the training of pediatric neurologists in research, one of five such grants awarded.

The Purkyne Honorary Medal is latest among numerous honors that Dr. Moshe has received. Other such honors include election to the American Neurological Association and the American Pediatric Society, as well as receipt of a Teacher- Investigator Development Award and a Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the NIH; the Michael Prize for achievement in epilepsy research; an American Epilepsy Society Research Award; an Ambassador for Epilepsy Award, from the International League against Epilepsy; the Pierre Gloor Award, from the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society; and a distinguished service award from the Epilepsy Foundation of Southern New York.

Dr. Moshe has been a member of the Einstein faculty since 1979. A native of Greece, he received his bachelor's degree and his medical degree from the National University of Athens. He is currently a resident of Chappaqua, NY.
