Disability Rights Commission report deeply distressing, says learning disability charity
Commenting on the health inequalities report released by the Disability Rights Commission, Alison Giraud-Saunders, Co-Director of the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities charity said:
"The findings of this report are deeply distressing. It seems that still, little value is placed on the lives of people with learning disabilities. We have known for many years that they experience poor physical health and shorter life expectancy. The Disability Rights Commission Formal Investigation report was very clear about actions that should be taken - some progress has been made but too little has been delivered to make sure all people with learning disabilities get the same rights to good healthcare as everybody else.
"The sensible recommendations made the Disability Rights Commission, if implemented, could truly change the lives of people with learning disabilities for the better. It is frustrating that such little progress has been made."
The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities promotes the rights, quality of life and opportunities of people with learning disabilities and their families.
