The National Autism Association (NAA) says that a CDC study of only 1047 participants, low compliance rate, and very little data variation -- limitations that would ordinarily bar publication in any reputable journal -- appears to misinform the public. They question how such a poor quality study and misleading conclusion can be published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).
The research conclusion states that findings couldn't support a causal association between early exposure to mercury from thimerosal containing vaccines and neuropsychological functioning. Yet the data in the body of the paper clearly states a statistically significant relationship between thimerosal and a host of co morbid disorders frequently seen in autism, replicating earlier CDC findings published in the Nov. 2003 journal Pediatrics.
Contradicting its own conclusion, the NEJM paper states (pgs. 1284-85, 1290) that higher exposure to mercury was associated with:
-- significantly poorer performance on tests of backward recall
-- behavioral regulation problems and a higher likelihood of motor and phonic tics
-- lower verbal IQ scores
-- speech articulation problems
The study's interpretive outcome and favorable results towards the CDC and vaccine makers might be explained by the exhaustive list of conflicts of interests disclosed by study authors (pg. 1291). "The CDC sets vaccine policy and has ties to vaccine makers, lending bias to any studies they conduct regarding potential vaccine injuries," said NAA board member Scott Bono. "How can Americans expect them to rule against their own policy that advocates injecting excess amounts of a known neurotoxin into children?"
Also, NAA believes that the low compliance rate of 30%, starkly lower than the usual 70% rate in scientific research, might reflect public distrust of the CDC and vaccine safety.
Sallie Bernard, co-founder and executive director of SafeMinds, is a dissenting panel member and the only consumer representative of the study. More commentary on the study can be found at http://www.safeminds.org. To read the study, go to http://www.nejm.org.
Some vaccines and most flu shots still contain a toxic mix of mercury and aluminum.

Low Verbal IQ And Vaccines
posted by KiBO on 29 Sep 2007 at 4:08 pmHello,
I am just a person interested in health and medicine. And a mother. I really found your article interesting. My son has a high non-verbal IQ.
But school is very difficult. Low verbal IQ, younger - he could seem like hyperactive. He has attention problems (not on the PC or with games of course). Probably dyslexic (but some say he isn't - so untypical and orthophonist help did not help). Sometimes I feel he has something like Aspergers.. Difficulty with "time and space". Motor skills not too god, as young. Trying breast swimming, and he was laughing so much that he nearly drowned. Too much concentration needed. (Floating never was a problem. Baby swimming at 8 weeks.) Ran in an awkward (how you spell?) way.
Problem with active memory? I mean short memory.
He has all these difficulties - does not understand what he is reading - has the French (scientific) baccalaureate (at 21 years) but has also traits (?) , can also have signs of being precocious. Non verbal IQ at 133.
No at 22, he is going ahead at school. Seems to be content. We have tried "everything" (Ronald D. Davis, Tomatis, food intolerance (yes dairy and no cereals ++) prodys.eu (nothing to get there) reeducation of eyes...
And every exam year orthophonist visit to prepare a demand for extra time at the exam..
So this is not an opinion, but our own experience. Suppose to no help for you. But for sure I found this interesting.
Best regards
