Training Fellowships For Endovascular Therapies Launched - Junior Doctors To Receive Training To Become Cross-Disciplinary Endovascular Specialists

The British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET), announces the society's first Endovascular Fellowships for vascular surgeons and radiologists. The training offered to the successful candidates will bring together the two disciplines of radiology and vascular surgery, providing trainees with an understanding of the very latest vascular technology so they can provide best practice endovascular therapy.

Sponsored by Cook Medical, the three fellowships, worth a total of £150,000, will provide 6 months of training for three doctors. The training will take place at three Centres of Excellence in endovascular practice, to be selected by BSET.

Professor Matt Thompson, Secretary of BSET, said: "These fellowships will give trainees the chance to investigate the very latest procedures for AAA and TAA repair so they can provide the newest and best treatment to their patients. This is especially important given the scale of vascular disease: 5 per cent of people over 65 will suffer from some form of aortic aneurysm in their life.

"BSET was formed to advance this kind of cross disciplinary working for those looking to specialise in endovascular treatment. The fellowships will be a great boost to any junior doctor's career and will ensure that future endovascular specialists are able to treat patients with the most reliable methods," said Thompson.

The British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET) was launched by a group of vascular surgeons with an interest in endovascular surgery in early 2007, to promote endovascular treatment and support research into endovascular techniques in the UK.
