Access to immediate information is crucial. In an ongoing effort to bring its members the most comprehensive and authoritative information, The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has been honored by the Web Marketing Association with three "Standard of Excellence Awards" for its web portal Orthopaedic Knowledge OnLine. "These awards prove that the AAOS is at the forefront of education - not just medical education, but across the board," said William A. Grana, MD, MPH, an AAOS fellow and editor-in-chief of Orthopaedic Knowledge OnLine.
With the click of a mouse, orthopaedic surgeons can brush-up on their skills by viewing videos which provide the very latest step-by-step surgical techniques. Physicians can, receive in-depth diagnostic information, read the latest journal articles and also download instructional course lectures. Information is available on orthopaedic specialties including more than 200 orthopaedic topics. "We have developed important partnerships with all the specialty societies, which, more than just providing a long-term benefit to OKO, have been a unifying influence on orthopaedics" said Dr. Grana.
Orthopaedic Knowledge Online was honored with awards for Medical Excellence, Educational Excellence and Publishing Excellence. "OKO has everything a physician looks for online", said James H. Beaty, MD and President of the AAOS. "The Academy congratulates Dr. Grana, the physicians and Academy staff for providing the most up-to-date orthopaedic information in an easily accessible, timely manner."
"My vision has been realized in many ways. This is a wonderful recognition of all the work that has been put into the site. It puts us at the top of the heap in terms of this type of educational activity", said Dr. Grana.
The WebAwards are a juried competition, aimed at recognizing achievement by website developers. According to the Web Marketing Association, the Standard of Excellence WebAward "recognizes the standard of excellence for which all Web sites should strive." More than 2,300 web sites from 35 countries were judged in 96 categories.
