Asthma UK Cymru will be offering National Healthy Living Week exhibition delegates the chance to get top tips from an asthma specialist on managing the condition and the opportunity to meet inspirational Paralympic gold medal winner David Roberts MBE.
Wales has one of the highest rates of asthma in the world, with 1 in 12 adults and 1 in 10 children living with the condition. Members of the public will have the opportunity to pick up information about asthma in English and in Welsh during the two-day exhibition on 9 and 10 October, as well as seek advice from an asthma nurse specialist and talk to David Roberts MBE about how he manages his asthma. On Wednesday, 10 October, an Asthma specialist will also be on hand offering on-the-spot peak flow tests, which measure lung capacity.
Janet Pardue-Wood, National Director for Asthma UK Cymru, says: 'Research conducted by Asthma UK Cymru has shown that a massive 82% percent of people with asthma in Wales do not meet international goals for treatment outcomes. We urge anyone unsure about their medicines or with any questions about asthma to come and speak to us at the event so we can help more people manage their asthma effectively and improve their quality of life.'
The National Healthy Living Week exhibition is being held at the Welsh Assembly's Senedd building and is hosted by the Welsh Assembly's All Party Group for Healthy Living, made up of Welsh Assembly Members and voluntary organisations to help people have a more active and fulfilled lifestyle.
