FAV Health 2007, an International Symposium on Human Health Effects of Fruit and Vegetables (FAV) is scheduled for the first time in the United States from October 9 till 13 in Houston, TX. The goal of the conference is to exchange information & bridge the communication gap between the agricultural sciences, nutrition & health sciences.

This conference is unique since scientists, students, industry, commodity groups and legislatures from 38 countries will participate to learn and discuss about the latest advances in science behind fruits, vegetables and their health maintaining properties. The conference will be hosted by the interdisciplinary center, Vegetable and Fruit Improvement Center, of the Texas A&M University Agriculture. Several international and national corporate as well as academic institutions are sponsoring the symposium to make sure this conference will provide an avenue to advance the science in the area of foods for health.

The conference has several exciting themes including round table discussion on funding challenges for research and educational activities which will be attended by the panelists from NIH, USDA, WHO, CDC, Texas Ag Commissioner. Graduate students luncheon will be another special feature of the conference which includes short presentation directed toward the consumer by four select students around the world. The conference will also provide recent advances in beneficial effects of fruits, vegetables on protection against cancer, heart, brain and skin health.

Several lead scientists around the world will focus on how pre and- post harvest factors will affect bioactive compounds. A session will also cover, Selling FAV Science: A Win-Win for Consumer Health, Researchers and Industry's Bottom Line by the lead experts in marketing and industry representatives.
