UroToday.com - Following publication of the article, the patient subsequently died of causes unrelated to prostate cancer or the prostatic abscess. A post-mortem examination of the prostate did not find any microbial organisms accounting for the abscess. There was a small amount of fluid between the prostate and seminal vesicle. Pathologic examination of the prostate did not identify any prostate cancer, and the prostate tissue was consistent with complete fibrosis, substantiating the effectiveness of cryotherapy.
