Harmonex Corporation today announced the formal launch of CliniCom(TM), a revolutionary software platform designed to assess children, adolescents and adults for possible psychiatric conditions.
CliniCom(TM), an intuitive, computer assisted intake and assessment tool created for use in mental health settings, gathers information directly from patients and their advocates prior to an initial evaluation. Designed to elevate the level of patient care, this technology also offers physicians a highly accurate, time-saving complement to their in-office care.
"We are very pleased to offer this unique technology to our colleagues after many years of rigorous research and development," said Nelson M. Handal, M.D., Harmonex's chairman and medical director. "Thanks to CliniCom(TM), higher quality care, better use of clinical time, a more thorough patient experience, and more robust clinical research is not only possible, but is already a reality at all CliniCom(TM) sites."
Dr. Handal, a practicing board certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, developed CliniCom(TM) together with Harmonex's team of physicians, technologists, researchers, health care and global software experts after identifying a pervasive and critical need for accurate data in the mental health field. This technology enables doctors and patients across the network -- which includes private practices, hospitals, and other front line care providers -- to also participate in clinical research initiatives on a scale never seen before in mental health.
"One compelling aspect of this exciting new technology is that doctors require only an Internet connection and computer to reap the benefits of CliniCom(TM) -- with no upfront or licensing fees," said Sharon Allred, chief executive officer. "By helping doctors to reach the correct assessment the first time, CliniCom(TM) makes better use of in-office time and reduces the risk of an inaccurate medical diagnosis."
CliniCom(TM) is also reimbursable by major insurance companies, which in turn helps contribute to the sites' bottom line. Psychiatrists are among the lowest paid physicians and quality resources such as technology are often too expensive or out of reach. CliniCom(TM) makes it easy and cost effective for doctors to upgrade their quality of care and significantly improve the overall patient experience.
Patients interact with the technology on their own before meeting with the doctor. This means that doctors can spend the limited time previously available for assessing patients to build better rapport, educate patients and refine a treatment plan. A recent independent survey of over 400 CliniCom(TM) users found that 92% of those surveyed reported that CliniCom(TM) was very easy to use.
IISY, a leading global software development company specializing in knowledge base management and artificial intelligence based software tools, developed the core software platform which provides unprecedented flexibility and application stability within CliniCom(TM). IISY's global client portfolio includes Daimler-Benz, Deutsche Telecom, Drager Medical, Siemens, Swiss Com and T-Mobile.
On the policy front, the U.S. government has long recognized the importance of modernizing the fragmented and complex mental health sector. In 2003, President George Bush inaugurated the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health with the goal of eliminating disparities in mental health care and promoting technology to improve the mental health care system. In addition, several members of Congress have recently introduced health IT bills incentivizing doctors, hospitals and insurance companies to adopt IT programs, including the development of electronic mental health records.
Harmonex is a privately held bio-technology and clinical research organization committed to providing mental health professionals with tools and resources that help address key issues in assessing and treating patients for mental illness. With primary sites in Atlanta, Georgia and Dothan, Alabama, Harmonex's objective is to provide patients with access to the highest quality of care possible.
