Holland and Barrett has withdrawn a batch of its Nature's Harvest Sesame seeds due to the presence of salmonella. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.

Ready-to-eat food products should not contain any traces of salmonella. The Agency is advising consumers not to eat the affected batch and to contact Holland and Barrett on what action they need to take.

The Agency is not aware of any reported cases of salmonella linked to this incident.

Salmonella can cause diarrhoea and sickness.

Product details

-- Nature's Harvest Sesame Seeds Hulled 125g
-- Batch code: 30117
-- Best before end: April 08

The affected batch was withdrawn on 9 October. Point-of-sale notices telling customers why the product has been withdrawn, and what action they can take, will also be displayed in all stores.

Food Alerts

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Food alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken. They are issued under two categories:

-- Food Alerts: for Action
-- Food Alerts: for Information

-- More information on food poisoning
