Washington Post Special Section Looks At Health Insurance Options

The Washington Post health section on Tuesday featured a special report on health insurance options, particularly for those who do not receive insurance through their employers. According to the Post, from "losing a job ... to finding employer-provided coverage too expensive, almost anyone can suddenly become uninsured." The Post profiled different insurance choices ranging from purchasing insurance from a group health plan or directly from an insurer to enrolling in a state or federal program, such as Medicaid or SCHIP. In addition, some states have programs for individuals rejected from private plans due to pre-existing medical conditions, as well as programs that offer no- or low-cost primary care. The Post also discussed paying out of pocket for medical care (Ault, Washington Post, 10/16).
Profiles
The Post health section also profiled the health insurance plans of 10 Washington, D.C., area residents. The Post examined how their health plan decisions affected their lives in the past year. In addition, the Post in future articles will report on the effects of their health insurance on their lives during the coming year (Gearon, Washington Post, 10/16).
