Currently, more than 47 million Americans do not have adequate health insurance and this number continues to grow. A lack of insurance plus a diagnosis of cancer can be a deadly combination.

"Access to Care" is the theme of The American Cancer Society's new ad campaign. Your Cancer Today previews one of the commercials and interviews the CEO of the American Cancer Society, John Seffrin, PhD.

While not advocating a specific solution, the American Cancer Society is looking to start a dialogue and increase the "political will" needed to address the issue. Dr. Seffrin points out that "if a women gets diagnosed with breast cancer, but doesn't have health insurance, she is 40% more likely to die."

Although the situation is bleak for the uninsured, Dr. Seffrin concludes that cancer is the most preventable and curable deadly disease that we are currently facing.
