The California Medical Association Annual Session and House of Delegates will meet this week to debate and consider policies on public health, science and health care.

About 1,000 doctors - including more than 400 delegates, and 250 alternate delegates representing their geographic communities, ethnicities and specialties from throughout the state -- as well as specialty association representatives, medical students and others, will convene at Disneyland Hotel Convention Center. Media are welcome at public meetings and events, but must check in and get credentials from the CMA Media Relations staff at the convention center office, Disneyland Exhibit Hall I.

Resolutions decided by the House of Delegates set the policy for the association on issues concerning medical ethics, public health, science, insurance, public policy and other health care topics. Other actions before the House of Delegates include:

- The election of CMA's president-elect. Dev GnanaDev, M.D., a San Bernardino County surgeon, who is running unopposed.

- The inauguration of Richard Frankenstein, M.D., an Orange County pulmonologist, who will address the convention as CMA's new president on Sunday afternoon.

- Presentation of the CMA's outstanding rural physician award to Horacio Rodiles, M.D., of El Centro. Dr. Rodiles will receive CMA's Frederick K.M. Plessner Memorial Award on Saturday. The annual award is bestowed upon a physician who "best exemplifies the practice and ethics of a rural practitioner."

- An address by American Medical Association President Ronald M. Davis, M.D., on Sunday afternoon.

** The California Medical Association represents more than 30,000 California physicians, and their patients, in all modes of practice and specialties. The CMA is dedicated to the health of all Californians.
