Anne Weyman, Chief Executive, fpa said: "We welcome today's announcement that the Government intends to vaccinate young women aged 12-13, and a catch up programme for over fourteens, against strains of the HPV virus which can cause cervical cancer.

"Since the impact of genital warts on individual lives and NHS services is so considerable, fpa hopes that the programme will also vaccinate against the strains which cause genital warts.

"Introducing an effective vaccination programme for all eligible young women and also extending it to young men has the potential to eliminate genital warts in a whole generation."

fpa (Family Planning Association) is the only registered charity working to improve the sexual health and reproductive rights of all people throughout the UK.
