Varian Medical Systems, the world's leading manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating cancer, has been honored with the Axeda 2007 Remote Service Leadership Award. Bestowed each year by Axeda Corporation, the award recognizes a single organization that has achieved the highest level of success using the Axeda® ServiceLink solution, which enables technology companies to access complex devices at customer sites for remote monitoring and real-time support.
Varian utilizes Axeda ServiceLink in its SmartConnect® technology for remote support of radiation oncology clinics. SmartConnect enables Varian's customer support specialists to diagnose system problems in real time over a secure Internet connection, providing clinics with fast and effective service and support.
Axeda, based in Foxboro, Massachusetts, initiated the Remote Service Leadership award to highlight the work of customers who have achieved maximum value through the effective implementation and deployment of Axeda ServiceLink. This year's winner was selected by the Aberdeen Group, an analyst firm that has extensively covered the remote product service market, based on a detailed survey of users.
The award was based on information about year-over-year improvements to the system and innovative deployments of the technology. In Varian's case, the improvement was demonstrated by reductions in mean-time-to-repair (MTTR) and explosive growth in the number of SmartConnect installations from 1500 to 6000 over the year.
"According to the Aberdeen Group, Varian was the clear standout," says Kolleen Kennedy, Varian's vice president of customer support services. "We are committed to providing our customers with the highest levels of real-time support so they can remain focused on treating cancer patients."
