The first American College of Nurse-Midwives Women's Health Expo will be held May 24, 2008, in Boston in conjunction with the ACNM 53rd Annual Meeting & Exposition. The consumer-focused Expo will include an interactive women's health experience promoted through the local and regional media and medical community partnerships.

More than 2,000 nurse-midwives, physicians, nurses, and other women's health care professionals from the U.S and around the world are expected to attend the Annual Meeting. The meeting features educational sessions on more than 50 topics given by women's health experts.

"Each year, the ACNM Annual Meeting is the nation's leading educational forum on all aspects of women's health, as well as the premier networking event and business meeting for the midwifery and women's health community," said ACNM Executive Director Lorrie Kline Kaplan. "For the first time, ACNM is taking advantage of this crown jewel event to provide value to local consumers and enhance the public visibility of the high-quality and comprehensive services offered by certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives. CNMs and CMs are the nation's leading experts on women's health and we look forward to channeling this expertise to create an outstanding experience for women of the Boston metropolitan area and beyond."

While most consumers strongly associate midwifery purely with childbearing, the 10,000 CNMs and CMs in the United States also provide a broad range of gynecological and primary health care services for women across the lifespan. With prescriptive authority in all 50 states, and rigorous educational and certification requirements, ACNM members are well-positioned to play an increasing role in health care delivery in the United States.

The Women's Health Expo will be held Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This free event is open to the public and will feature more than 200 exhibitors in a large exhibit hall with educational materials, entertainment, and the chance to interact with women's health experts. This event is perfect for women of any age and their families. The exhibits will showcase women's health care products and services. Vendors from pharmaceutical companies, equipment manufacturers, publishers, childbirth educators, education programs, and government agencies are just some of the many exhibitors.

With roots dating to 1929, the American College of Nurse-Midwives is the oldest women's health care association in the U.S. ACNM's mission is to promote the health and well-being of women and newborns within their families and communities through the development and support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives. Midwives believe every individual has the right to safe, satisfying health care with respect for human dignity and cultural variations.
