As the countdown to the Wansbeck Safer Working Community week-long programme of events designed to make Wansbeck a safer place to work continues, businesses across the district are likely to receive a visit from a joint team of inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive and Wansbeck District Council.
The team will be conducting inspections of premises from 5-9 November to give advice and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. They will also be promoting the safer working community events taking place in Wansbeck next month.
Pam Waldron, Head of Operations for the Health and Safety Executive in the North East, said: "HSE and Wansbeck District Council can offer practical help, advice and support to make businesses safer places to work by reducing the risk of accidents and possible ill health.
"In the long run, it makes good business sense to adopt good practice and I would encourage businesses across Wansbeck to work in partnership with the HSE and Wansbeck District Council, as well as coming along to some of the many events being held during Wansbeck Safer Working Community week next month."
Wansbeck Safer Working Community week will be held from 19-23 November 2007. During the week various events and workshops will be held covering a wide range of health and safety topics. These include awareness of safer moving and handling, healthy workplaces, better backs, working at height, fire risk assessment and risk assessment for small businesses.
Councillor Alex Wallace, Civic Head of Wansbeck District Council, said: "We have designed the free training event programme specifically for the types of enterprise which we have in Wansbeck and I would encourage businesses to take up these opportunities."
