The nation's physician leaders will gather this week to begin a grassroots process that will shape and influence the political and legislative agenda of America's largest physician organization.

The American Medical Association's House of Delegates is a democratic forum designed to create a national physician consensus on health care issues in the United States. This meeting will help determine the future course of the AMA's health care agenda by establishing policies on emerging issues in government, public health, ethics and business.

Policy proposals related to the following issues will be considered:

- Ensuring affordable health insurance for patients with expensive medical conditions
- Trends in employer-sponsored health insurance
- Guidelines for evaluating state proposals for health system reform
- Ethical considerations regarding umbilical cord blood banking

Policy proposals will be considered for a vote on Monday, November 11 and Tuesday, November 12. For a comprehensive list of the items to be considered by the House of Delegates, please visit the AMA Web site.
