A new pilot project in West Virginia will offer health coverage to uninsured children who do not qualify for Medicaid or other government programs, the AP/Charleston Daily Mail reports. Under the "Every Child Matters" program, families will pay $30 per physician visit, and an "affordability fund" will cover a portion of the cost if a family cannot pay the entire fee. Sixteen community health center facilities across the state will participate in the program. The program is a joint project of the Heinz Family Philanthropies, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and the West Virginia Primary Care Association. Heinz Family Philanthropies Chair Teresa Heinz said that the program will move the state one step closer to providing universal health care access for children (AP/Charleston Daily Mail, 11/6).
