UN University-Cornell Africa Series First Symposium

Cornell University and the United Nations University (UNU) will explore causes, effects and potential solutions for the health, governance and security of the African continent when it inaugurates the "UNU-Cornell Africa Series" of moderated symposia on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The series is free and open to the public.

The focus of the Nov. 13 inaugural symposium will be Africa's food system and its interactions with health and nutrition. It will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjold Library Penthouse at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Jean-Marc Coicaud, director of the UNU office in New York, will open the symposium. Cornell President David J. Skorton will deliver the keynote address. Two Cornell faculty -- Per Pinstrup-Andersen, the H.E. Babcock Professor of Food, Nutrition and Public Policy; and Patrick Stover, director of the UNU Food and Nutrition Program and director of the Division of Nutritional Sciences -- will provide introductory comments.

Throughout the day, experts from around the globe will participate in moderated discussions about the African food system, agricultural development, pest management, zoonotic diseases, and other challenges related to African food, health and nutrition.
