The IOF and Servier have formed a partnership and created a grant in order to encourage young scientists to engage in cutting-edge research in bone disease and increase the awareness and understanding of osteoporosis.
This grant is aimed at supporting investigators under the age of 40 for original research projects on osteoporosis of high scientific value and international relevance. The winning project will be supported by an unrestricted € 40 000 grant from Servier.
An international jury, chaired by the President of the IOF, reviews projects and selects the winner.
Five young scientists have been awarded this grant since 2000.
Dr E. Feng-i Morgan (Boston, USA) was distinguished in 2006 for her work on the use of 3-D visualization to understand how spine fractures start and progress and test models to predict vertebral fracture. The results of her project and the winner of the 2008 grant will be presented at the 2008 IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis in Bangkok, Thailand (December 3-7, 2008).
