Flu-hit Takada Farm breeding chickens again Japan

The Kyoto prefectural government reported Monday that it had given permission for Takada Farm in Tanbacho in the prefecture to resume breeding chickens on an experimental basis following the discovery of avian influenza at the farm in March after an outbreak in late February at Asada Nosan Co.'s nearby Funai Farm.

The announcement was reported to a conference on bird flu held in Tanbacho. The prefectural government said the breeding would continue until the middle of the month, and if the virus was not found at the farm by then, the farm would be permitted to resume operations as early as July.

All chickens bred at Takada Farm were slaughtered after some of the birds were found infected with the virus.

Saying he had been worried about a recurrence of bird flu, Kenshiro Takada, president of the farm, said, "I'm happy that the resumption of our business is now in sight."
