"Employers' Use of Value-Based Purchasing Strategies," Journal of the American Medical Association: For the study, Harvard University researchers conducted telephone interviews with executives from some of the largest employers in 41 U.S. markets and found that, in large part, respondents did not use value-based and related strategies when purchasing health plans. According to the study, few respondents used their purchasing power with health plans and providers to improve the quality of health care received by employees, although many said that they examined quality data on health plans (Rosenthal et al., JAMA, 11/21).
