Prompted by the emergency in the Mexican state of Tabasco after the heavy floods over the past few days, Bayer has decided to help flood victims by donating medicines and insecticides.

"The situation in Mexico is quite dramatic, so we want to help alleviate the distress of the people and in particular reduce the health hazards," said Werner Wenning, Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer AG. Working closely with the Mexican Ministry of Health, Bayer's Mexican subsidiary is providing the authorities in Tabasco with urgently required medicines and products for the professional combating of insects and other carriers of diseases. In all, the value of the donation will total over US-Dollar 350,000. "As the water level drops, the full extent of the damage is gradually becoming apparent. We now need to help the people in those areas," says Georg Braunleder, Managing Director of the Bayer subsidiary in Mexico.

Heavy rainfall in southern Mexico has caused the worst floods for half a century. Vast swathes of the Mexican state of Tabasco were submerged in water, about a million people were made homeless, and this year's crops were largely destroyed. Moreover, the lack of drinking water and the dead animals floating in the water are continuing to cause an acute risk of diseases.
