Award From American Heart Association Presented To Boston University School Of Medicine Professor

Margaret Kelly-Hayes, EdD, RN, FAAN, FAHA, a clinical professor of neurology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and an investigator at the Framingham Heart Study, was recently awarded the Stroke Council Award from the American Heart Association (AHA). The award was presented at the AHA's recent Scientific Sessions meeting in Orlando, Florida.
The Stroke Council Award recognizes and encourages those who actively work to integrate stroke and heart disease in clinical care, education or research. After receiving the award, Kelly-Hayes gave a lecture at the AHA meeting on the influence of health behaviors, social factors, and gender on stroke risk and outcome.
Kelly-Hayes is a fellow in both the Stroke and Cardiovascular Nursing Councils and is currently serving as the Stroke Advocacy Ambassador for the Stroke Council of the American Stroke Association (ASA) a division of the American Heart Association. She is also a member of the leadership committee of the Stroke Council, a member of the advisory board of the ASA and a member of the AHA's advocacy coordinating committee.
Kelly-Hayes served as a member of the writing groups on the Primary and Secondary Guidelines for Stroke Prevention and was a member of the expert panel that developed the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Post-Stroke Rehabilitation. She is an author of more than 100 articles on stroke prevention, stroke outcome measures, trends in disability and rehabilitation nursing.
