The New York Times announced the names of the four winners of the 2007 "Tribute to Nurses" awards. Now in its fifth year, the program honors nurses and nurse educators in the New York region for their extraordinary achievements in the nursing profession and in patient care.

The Times will hold a reception to honor the winners on Dec. 12 at its new headquarters. Winners were featured in a special advertising section in The New York Times Magazine on Dec. 9 and will receive a check for $2,000 from The Times. Jane Brody, personal health columnist for The New York Times, will be the guest speaker at the ceremony.

The 2007 "Tribute to Nurses" award winners are:

- Pat Bonder, RN, BSN (Atlantic Health, Morristown Memorial Hospital and Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, Morristown, New Jersey)

- Rachel Jones, BSN, MS, Ph.D. (Nurse Educator, Rutgers College of Nursing, Newark, New Jersey)

- Carol Odnoha, RN, MPA (Visiting Nurse Service of New York)

- Kathy Webster, RN, MSN, VP of Patient Services (Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Cortlandt Manor, New York)

"We are very happy to once again pay tribute to individuals in the nursing profession whose contributions have truly made a difference. Year after year, this program demonstrates how invaluable nurses and nurse educators are to the health care industry and to society as a whole," said Douglas Latino, advertising director, The New York Times.

This year hundreds of award nominations were collected through a print and online campaign that appeared in The New York Times and on NYTimes.com. Award winners are determined by a panel of nursing professionals and by The New York Times.
