Students From University Of Georgia Win 12th ASHP National Clinical Skills Competition

A record number of pharmacy students, nearly 4,000, were on hand for specialized student programming at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' (ASHP's) 42nd Midyear Clinical Meeting, December 2-6, 2007. Activities included the announcement of Cynthia Illy and Amy Kendrick of the University of Georgia as winners of the Society's 12th National Clinical Skills Competition.

A record-setting 91 teams who won preliminary competitions at their local pharmacy schools participated in the activity (see below for full listing). During the competition, administered by ASHP's Pharmacy Student Forum and sponsored by the ASHP Research and Education Foundation, students demonstrate their skills by assessing patient information and current therapy, identifying and prioritizing drug therapy problems, identifying treatment goals, and recommending a pharmacist's care plan.

Other activities for pharmacy students included sessions on career planning, pursuing residency training, and financial management.
