Sunday Opening And New £25 Delegate Rate For BPC 2008, UK

Responding to calls from members to make the British Pharmaceutical Conference (BPC) more accessible and affordable, BPC 2008 will open for the first time on a Sunday. Special rates of £25 +VAT for Society members and students, and a £40 +VAT for non-members, will be made available on the opening day.

BPC 2008 will take place at Manchester Central from Sunday 7 to Tuesday 9 September with the theme: Pharmacy in the 21st Century, adding years to life and life to years.

BPC has become established as a flagship event of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and has developed into the biggest and best conference for pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. The 2008 programme will appeal to the wide range of pharmacy audiences and include high-quality sessions and expert speakers. The science programme will once again be supported by the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Highlights on the 2008 programme include: opening addresses on Sunday and Monday on the conference theme by Professor Trevor Jones, Allergan Inc., and Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland respectively; sessions on the future shape of regulation and the Society; and sessions on prescribing, polypharmacy and the opportunities of new technologies amongst many others.

Conference Committee Chairman John Gentle says:

"BPC is a successful event which attracts around 1000 delegates with an interest in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical science. The decision to move to a Sunday opening is part of the ongoing initiatives designed to build on the success of BPC and open the event to a wider audience. Members have criticised the Society in the past about the costs of attending BPC and the decision to offer a member rate of £25 for the Sunday shows that we are listening. The Sunday will include topical sessions designed to appeal to those from across the profession and in particular the community, primary and secondary care sectors as well as the industrial and pharmaceutical scientists."
