Northern Ireland's Junior Doctors Welcome Improvements In Recruitment System

The British Medical Association in Northern Ireland has welcomed the NI Health Minister's announcement yesterday, of improvements to the system to recruit doctors into the specialty training grades in Northern Ireland.

Dr Rajesh Rajendran, Chairman of the BMA's NI Junior Doctors Committee (NIJDC), represented the Association on the Review Panel set up to review the process of recruitment into specialty training grades in Northern Ireland. Commenting on the announcement, Dr Rajendran said: "Earlier this year NIJDC was actively involved in the review to find a better way of recruiting doctors into specialty training and in so doing has also helped rebuild confidence in the process for 2008 amongst junior doctors.

"We will continue to work closely with the NI Medical & Training Agency and the DHSSPSNI to ensure effective communication with junior doctors regarding the new recruitment process, starting in January, and to make certain that doctors are in posts by August 2008."
