The Perinatal Nursing Advisory Council, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the March of Dimes invites nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, health educators, lactation consultants, and the community to the March of Dimes 33nd Annual Perinatal Conference February 27-29th at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield, in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Conference is being held in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Public Heath's 23rd Annual Conference entitled "Genetics: A Family Affair." All healthcare professionals caring for moms and babies are urged to attend.
This conference will address significant and challenging areas of current perinatal nursing practice. There will be an array of speakers and workshops that will focus on topics related to perinatal nursing as a profession today, societal concerns as they influence maternal and child health, current and future trends in perinatal care delivery, and developments in nursing research and practice.
Among the long list of remarkable speakers and workshops are: Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff who will cover "The Nature of Nurture: Biology, Environment and the Drug Exposed Child"; Terry Johnson on "Hocus Pocus: How Nursing Went Invisible…Abracadabra: How We Make it Reappear"; Lisa Miller on "Electronic Record Keeping: How it Can Help, How it Can Hurt"; Kathleen Rice Simpson, PhD, on "Intrauterine Resuscitation During Labor" and a host of others at this three day conference. The March of Dimes National Medical Director Alan R. Fleischmann will also be in attendance and will present the keynote address on the "National Children's Study."
At the end of the conference, experienced professionals will have gained further knowledge on current trends, clinical advances, societal and professional issues challenging the delivery of perinatal health care today, nursing research relevant to the comprehensive care of the childbearing family, and techniques available to identify and screen for genetic disorders.
