The family of Nataline Sarkisyan, whose death became a national symbol of the cruelty of insurance corporations after CIGNA delayed a life-saving liver transplant, will join other patients, members of the California Nurses Association, union workers, and healthcare activists in testifying against ABX1 1, the healthcare deal crafted by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Fabian Nunez, and supported by CIGNA and nearly every other California insurer.
A broad coalition of leading California unions and Sen. Leland Yee yesterday announced their opposition to ABX1 1, the deeply flawed deal brokered by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez. Strong critiques of the bill were presented today by leaders of the Teamsters, United Food and Commercial Workers, Communication Workers of America, California School Employees Association, International Longshore and Warehouse Union, Office and Professional Employees, California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, League of Women Voters, and the Gray Panthers. Among others opposing the bill are the Machinists and Engineers and Scientists unions, and California Church IMPACT, legislative arm of the California Council of Churches.
Sen. Yee, whose vote could be critical, cited the "struggle of the working poor" to meet their bills while "the state of California is saying you will have to pay for open-ended healthcare costs. There is no way I am going to support" a bill that could "literally put people out on the street" or force them to choose between paying for their healthcare or their housing costs.

Health Care Bills
posted by Dianne Parker on 24 Jan 2008 at 7:29 amthe more I hear of Gov Arnold Swartznegger; the less respect I have for him, he is an ACTOR first and foremost - he has no concept of what the working people deal with on an every day basis. My husband died 7/5/07 from a collection of MEDICAL MISTAKES & HOSPITAL ACQUIRED STAPH INFECTION.
I have been working to get accountability intergrated into the medical community since he was first injured in 2002. Why is it that if you have MD or CEO after your name, you are among the few who are not required to participate in Annual Review's where you work? WHy is it that hospitals across this nation reqruit MD's without major crenditialing processes?
Why do all the hospitals in this country have VIP lists? Why are patients allowed to leave the hospital with MRSA - hospital acquired before they are totally well - maybe because there is no total cure for the Hospital Acquired Staph Infections they cause by: 1) lousy cleaning chemicals and procedures 2) unclean Stethascopes, hands, physicians ties 4) nurse to patient ratios' vs hospital PROFITs!!!!! My 62 yr 5) states like South Carolina; who license & do not penalize incompetent members of the medical community on a daily basis.
My 62 yr old husband is dead because of all of the above. What a shame America has let our standards get so low we think more of being politically correct than human lives. 100,000 die yearly from MEDICAL MISTAKES; another 98,000 plus die from HOSPITAL ACQUIRED STAPH INFECTIONS and when I think about the lady who died in the lobby of the ER in Los Angeles; I get sick to my stomach - will our congressional leaders ever wake up and see the light. I am disgusted to the core from the "lack" of respect, incompetence and ingnorance of some of our medical community's.
