Health professionals based in general practice or specialist clinics wanting to attract men into mainstream contraceptive services can now download a free set of guidelines from fpa's website about making them more men-friendly. fpa are focusing on men and contraception as part of this year's Contraceptive Awareness Week. The New Man-[1] campaign is running from the 11-17 February.
The briefing sheet is full of information to help professionals think about different ways of making contraceptive services more welcoming to men, as well as reflecting on men's role in contraception and the issues facing them today. Subjects covered include:
- Offering a variety of confidential services.
- Making it clear that support and advice, not just tests and treatment are available.
- Providing materials and publicity aimed at men.
The guidelines can be downloaded from http://www.fpa.org.uk which are also part of a free campaign pack distributed by fpa. To order a pack email caw@fpa.org.uk.
The results of a national survey looking into men's attitudes towards contraception will also be published on the 11 February.
fpa (Family Planning Association) is the only registered charity working to improve the sexual health and reproductive rights of all people throughout the UK.
