Bikram's Yoga College of India, San Diego, has announced that Bikram Choudhury will present a seminar on yoga philosophy and practice as a benefit event. Choudhury believes that "You use the body as a medium to bring the mind back to the brain, creating a perfect marriage between body and mind. Then you can knock the door to the spirit." Choudhury, the man Deepak Chopra says "is doing a great service to yoga," will lecture on Yoga Philosophy (philosophy of human life), describe in detail the Bikram's Beginning Hatha Yoga Class with a 5 hour Posture Clinic, and finish with a Yoga class. Choudhury's most recent book "Bikram Yoga: The Guru Behind Hot Yoga Shows the Way to Radiant Health and Personal Fulfillment" was released in 2007.
"In Bikram's Yoga Class, you stretch muscles, tendons, and ligaments safely and effectively, increase circulation, and balance all the systems of the body," states Jim Kallett, Director of Bikram's Yoga College of India, San Diego. It is a specific sequence of poses and breathing exercises that integrate body, mind, and spirit, and help relieve a variety of afflictions - from stress, insomnia, arthritis, and back pain to more serious chronic diseases. In the U.S. since 1973, Bikram Yoga has become the fastest growing yoga with over 1,700 yoga schools and 5,000 certified teachers worldwide.
A three-time winner of the All India National Yoga Championship in his youth, Choudhury has taught world leaders, sports figures, and celebrities, including Indira Gandhi, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, John McEnroe, Serena Williams, Quincy Jones, and Raquel Welch. Countless others practice Bikram's Yoga.
This is Choudhury's first seminar in So. California since 2001. All proceeds will benefit an endowment for Ghosh's College of Physical Culture and Yoga, in Calcutta, India, where Choudhury learned yoga from his guru Bishnu Charan Ghosh, the most influential yoga master of the 20th century and the first to scientifically document yoga's ability to cure chronic physical ailments and heal the body.
Also...The 5th U.S. and International Yoga Asana Championships - Bishnu Ghosh Cup will be held Feb. 2-3, 2008 at the Westin Hotel-LAX. Sara Baughn, a teacher at Bikram's Yoga College of India, San Diego, will be competing as one of the favorites. The 2003 International champion was Lesli Christiansen, also a teacher at BYCI, San Diego.
