On Wednesday, the Cincinnati-based Kroger announced that it will begin selling 30-day supplies of more than 300 generic prescription drugs, including birth control pills, at significant discounts at participating pharmacies nationwide, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The discount drug program will cover generic versions of Ortho Cyclen and Ortho Tri-Cyclen (Stafford, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2/6). The program offers a 28-day supply of birth control for $9 and a fertility drug for $9, compared with the national average price of $24 to $30 for a monthly supply, the Dallas Morning News reports. The program also will sell generic versions of drugs for certain conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and thyroid for $4 (Roberson, Dallas Morning News, 2/5).
Wal-Mart Stores launched a similar discount drug program in September 2006. The company also offers generic versions of Ortho Cyclen and Ortho Tri-Cyclen, as well as a fertility drug, for $9 per 30-day supply. The program currently covers 361 prescriptions (Daily Women's Health Policy Report, 10/1/07).

Lyrica, No Pain...............NO Breathing!
posted by gladys on 13 Feb 2008 at 9:45 amI have COPD that nearly strangled me to death last December. At that time, I was taking Lyrica for severe Fibromyalgia pain. The Lyrica took the pain away. I felt better than I had in years. However, at the same time, my COPD caused my lungs to completely exasperate, leaving me totally unable to breath! Survivng my rush to the E.R., I rested a few days. I started taking my Lyrica, again, when I was back on my feet. Almost as soon as I began this pain freeing medication, I found myself waking in the black of night, unable to breath, Again! Only by getting to the E.R. immediately, was I able to survive the second time in December, 2007.
Still, my physician did not believe that my 'attacks' and the Lyrica were in any way related. I was using my home nebulizer, had my Combivent, Albuterol, and my Advair Disc.
My physician insisted that I return to taking my Lyrica, as I was in so much pain without it.
I did begin to take the Lyrica, again..........truly, trying to follow my doctor's advice, completely. I awoke in the middle of the night, and could not breath at all. I managed to get to the hospital, and to begin breathing treatments that did save my life, once again.
When I returned home, I didn't go to my doctor's office. I went home, and stayed down for 2 weeks. I was too weak to walk.
I did not take the Lyrica at this time. Immediately, I noticed that I could breath better, and I could sleep all night, without event!
I have had no problems breathing since last December, when I was taking the Lyrica.
I really want people to check themselves. Is Lyrica a great pain killer that deprives YOU of your breath? If so, regardless of what your physician believes, you really need to monitor yourself. Be careful. Live long, and breath well.
V-Pap Machne Saves My Life
posted by Breathing Easy on 18 Feb 2008 at 5:09 pmHi Gladys
Yep , same problem as you , but I have a V-Pap machine for Sleep Apnea (stop breathing when asleep) , during the day if I have trouble breathing , I have a Lay-Down and put my machine on , sometimes 2-3 times a day . I have had my machine for a number of years for sleeping , but now it really gets a "Workout" since I took Lyrica . (worst drug I have ever had the misfortune to take)
Mind you , I only took Lyrica for 23 days in March 2007 ! ! ! but I'm still suffering the Side Effects 11 months later . If it wasn't for my Sleep Apnea machine , I would be in the same position as you are .
