Seroquel really does work
posted by Maticia on 12 Jun 2006 at 7:06 amMy doctor put me on effexor & celexa to treat my major depression & distymia, as well as seroquel to help me sleep at night. I did not like the anti-dep. pills as I found it turned my depression into bi-polarism, instead of being down all the time but at least at same level every day, i started having huge highs & lows. So i stopped taking the ant-dep. pills (against my docs wishes)but continued with the seroquel. The seroquel is probably the best solution i have ever tried. I found out that the main reason i keep going into depression is due to high anxiety causing me not to sleep up to a whole week at times. The seroquel fixed all that & allowed my body schedule to get back on track, to know that come 11 PM, its time to sleep. Getting that sleep helped my moods & make better decisions overall. I just never had the energy before to be able to think straight. It truly works !! The only thing is you do have to take it early & sleep early because if you don't get the full amount of hours the pill is working (depends on how much you take), you will feel extremely groggy all day. But if you do sleep the full "8 hours", you feel sooooo refreshed.

| I believe that effexor is the best drug on the market today, and the negative is because people who are taking it are having reactions to it, possibly an allergy. I have been getting positive results. I go to school, I work, and I'm very happy. I've yet to have a dispute with my spouse since I've been taking it. Any questions? julie |

If an anti-dep like effexor put you in a manic state I would think you experienced what is called Bipolar Type III. Prozac did the same thing to me.
Continued anxiety (dysphoric mania) sounds like Bipolar Type II. You might need a mood stabilizer like lithium, lamictal or depakote to name a few. I would be wary of any of the neuroleptic medications (seroquel is one of them) since taking them for extended periods seems to cause tardive dyskinesia. |

People that have mania or hypomania when given an anti-depressant are bipolar it is not an allergy.
You have unipolar depression so effexor works great for you. |

I have suffered from depression on and off since I was a teenager. I have taken a number of antidepressants which worked. However I was put on Seroquel (50 mg. at bedtime) about 2 months ago and included with my Celexa (40 mg. in the morning) and the results have been amazing. I fall asleep fast and stay asleep and the effect on my mood during the day has been very beneficial.
