Lyrica Side Effects

posted by Ro on 21 Oct 2006 at 9:31 am

I found a post started long ago on weight gain with lyrica . I'd like to ask those experiencing weight gain to please post. Also, I'd like to know about those who have been able to maintain their weight. I've been on Lyrica for a few weeks and am basically the same weight I was when I started. Are there others like me out there? Loking forward to everyone's response..

I took Lyrica for 10 months and gained about 5 pounds, which I lost almost immediately when I stopped taking it. I generally felt bloated and puffy while on the medication in spite of continuing my exercise program throughout. The weight gain was slow but the puffy feeling started immediately.

I was on Lyrica for about 10 months for migraines. I am not overweight and I work out religiously. However, I steadily gained 10 pounds over those 10 months. I was starving constantly. After getting off the drug, I immediately dropped the weight. While the drug helped my migraines, it was the worst 10 months of my life. I thought I was crazy since I was eating more, still starving and working out to try to lose the constant weight gain.

Side Effects From Lyrica
posted by jackie mcgarry on 09 Nov 2006 at 9:35 am
I've been on lyrica for around a year and am taking 150mg. twice a day at present, but my weight gain is around 10lbs. Maybe less, as lyrica causes bloating, body gets bigger during day with fluid retention. But now I have corns on bottom of foot and walking the dog is not pleasant any more. She's much quicker with 4 legs?!

Side Effects Of Lyrica
posted by Lorraine on 21 Nov 2006 at 3:52 pm
I've read some of the posting. I agree, I seem to wake up feeling unbloated and by 5PM, I feel as big as a house. I am not overweight. I have been 350mg/day since July. My concern is not as much the weight as I have noticed I seem to get aggrevated and upset more easily. Something is out of whack and I just don't seem to be myself lately. Has anyone experienced anything like this?Oh, yes, and I am tired ALL the time. I'm beginning to question why I am taking it.

Not Myself Anymore
posted by Barbara Raia Curto on 06 Dec 2006 at 9:25 am
I need to take this drug for a lot of nerve damage from an auto accident 2 yrs ago. I have nerve pain in my ear and neck and bad spinal pain from disks and neck areas. If this helps anyone.... I am not myself, due to the drug intensifies sadness, and other emotions, makes tremors in my hands once in awhile, confusion with thinking and now obsessive thoughts including depression. I am stopping this drug very soon. I did put on a few pounds but thats it. I did eat alot when I first started the lyrica. I couldn't get enough of food in the beginning and I have always been think 115 lbs. Is there anyone out there with similar problems? These are side effects from the drug this past year.

Lyrica

Thanks for all your replies. I eat more, stuff I wouldn't normally eat. Lyrica also makes me tired and most days I tend to sit and not just because of feeling tired but since starting it my knees are sore and my feet ache, because, I suppose, of the swelling. As I said, there is no joy in walking.

Lyrica and weight gain
posted by jackie on 08 Dec 2006 at 7:27 am
I have been on lyrica a few months now and my weight has gone up about a stone. I will not use scales as it would annoy me. I just know by clothes that will not fit. I am size 18 and was 14. It does make u eat more but alot of it is fluid. In the evening my feet swell up more but they are sore all day. It is no fun walking the dog now.

I am also hungry all the time and seem to eat more. I am not overweight, but have gained 5 pounds in the 6 weeks one the drug. I workout 4-5 times a week and chase my 4 kids too. I am irritated with the weight gain and am also having a lot of problems with dizziness and imbalance. Anyone else with this?

Lyrica makes me hungry and moody but helps with pain
posted by Jackie on 18 Dec 2006 at 6:26 am
I have been taking Lyrica for only three weeks now and I am starving ALL of the time. My hunger is never satisfied.

My clothes do not fit like they did before I began taking this medication. I thought I was crazy. My mood has also been affected. I am depressed and easily agitated. I'm just not the same anymore, mood-wise. Lyrica has helped with the pain however.

Thanks for the postings- now I know I'm not losing my mind.

The water retention is quite ubelievable and I have noticed that those taking under 300mg a day level off at a ten pounds weight gain and are not as tired as those on a higher dose. I have dry mouth as well so I would advise those who are retaining water to a) take an anti gas pill and b) drink loads of undecaffinated drinks. The caffiene will puff you as well as add gas - which I suspect has a lot to do with the bloating. The first thing I felt like on pregabalin was Homer Simpson. But I was happier than before!

Lyrica

I am so relieved others are also experiencing the same type of side effects as I am.

I've been on Lyrica for almost 3 mths - 300 mg/day for postherpetic neuralgia. I was started on Gabapentine, but I find Lyrica controls the pain.

At the start I was quite dizzy and felt stoned & down. That has mostly passed.

Like others I've put on weight - about 10lbs, can't think very clearly, twitchy, and will drop things for no reason. I also find I have little patience and am irratible.

But what really bothers me is at times I just can't think of words, or I lose my train of thought.

I'm back at work and I really have to concentrate so hard just to put together this message.

Are there others out there that have been experiencing this memory loss problem?

Lyrica Side Effects

I have been taking Lyrica (300 mg/ day) for about 9 months now. My nerve pain is due to a failed cervical disc surgery. I had actually gained weight prior to taking Lyrica, as I was in horrible pain, could not exercise and used food to try and comfort myself. I was very depressed and almost suicidal due to the pain. My doctor (bless her heart) suggested I try Lyrica rather than the anit-depressant I had hoped for. After being on the drug for 1 week, my life turned around. I could again face my life. I did gain a bit more weight in the first few weeks, and do notice the bloating. But, due to my new reduced pain life, I have also lost 45 lbs. on Weight Watchers and feel great. I do notice a mild hand tremor from time to time. My concentration isn't what it used to be. I am tired a lot of the time. But, my life is better with reduced pain. I'll take bloating, tiredness and a slight increase in irritability over constant pain. I know it's a choose and lose situation, but I choose reduced pain.

I have been taking Lyrica for approx. 1yr, and the first 6-8mo I gained 20-30lbs and experience "puffiness". I have tried very hard to lose the weight and it does not want to come off- any suggestions? I have decreased my dosage from 300mg to 150mg/day.

Many Side Effects - Lyrica
posted by ANON on 03 Jan 2007 at 1:28 pm
I've gained about 10 lbs and cannot really afford to as I'm already overweight. I don't seem to be able to find the right word or name too frequently. I have some problems with blurred vision. I am no longer interested in any sexual activity and am unable to achieve satisfaction in that area. Last two are very unusual for me. I am on 300 mg a day. I have nerve pain as a result of surgery/accident that runs down my legs. This pain has been reduced about 90%.

I'm at a loss as to what to do.

I like the relief from Lyrica but the weight gain makes me want to quit it

Lyrica Side Effects

I have been on 350mg of Lyrica for approximately 6 months. I basically have the same side effects everyone else is writing about. I'm tired all time, bloated to the point of feeling like I'm 8 months PG, I have gained about 1lb. per month so far, I have cravings for food at strange times (2AM I NEED something sweet). As I mentioned in my previous opinion; I am not myself. I get depressed, aggrevated, upset, etc. The meds seem to help a "little", I'm not sure if the "effects" are worth the small relief they give. Maybe if the doctor's had to take some of these meds they prescribe, they would understand!

Lyrica helps me
posted by Sue on 08 Jan 2007 at 10:47 am
I have now been taking Lyrica for over one month. My weight gain was mostly bloating and I have noticed it subsiding. It is worth it for the benefits and as a side effect it is mild. I have quit smoking as well as a strange side effect so I will take the puffiness and health over how I felt before.
