Levaquin - Sinus Infection
posted by Stephanie on 09 Feb 2007 at 8:23 amI had a sinus infection that lasted a month. I tried Biaxin but it kept me up at night and upset my stomach. My doctor handed me the (5) 750mg pills in her office. There was no package insert and no instructions other than take (1) a day.
On day 1 about 4 - 6 hours after taking the pill my sinus was completely dry. In fact -- so dry that it felt like I had an icepick up both nostrils. My eyes were also extremly dry and hurt. These side affects were gone by 12 hours after the first dose. I also could not sleep more than a few minutes and work up every hour
On day 2 I had the same dryness. But I also had a tingling sensation in my tongue and the tip of my nose felt numb. By the end of the night I started feeling achy all over. My left shoulder hurt and I had a stabbing pain in the back. Then my feet hurt. I could not sleep night 2 either.
On day 3 I broke out in a rash within 2 hours of taking the pill. The rash was on the inside of my elbows and on the neck. My tongue felt thick. This was Sunday.
That was the last dose I took. I figured I was allergic to the drug. Today is Friday and my shoulder and feet still hurts. I still can't sleep.
I started looking at the side affects of the drug and found this site.
I gather the side affects will go away with time; I guess my biggest gripe is that the doctor just handed out the pills without any warning or paperwork. I plan to write her a letter about this.
