Transendental Meditation Is Dangerous.
posted by Gary Gold on 20 May 2007 at 8:18 pmNot everything of a spiritual nature is good for us. Anytime we venture into spiritual explorations we desperately need discernment. During the height of Transcendental Meditation fad in the 70's, the TM instrutors also had the highest suicide rate of any trainers in a spiritual system. TM is just recycled hinduism which, at the heart of the system, inductees are given a mantra which is a past hindu god which is to be chanted unnumbered times each day leading into peaceful bliss. The opposite is true. The person chanting the name invites spiritual parasites to oppress them. I speak out of experience and not theory. Gary Gold PhD

Chanting incantations to Hindu dieties is a dangerous spiritual and religious activity. I am amazed that media still hasn't got this yet. All you have to do is ask a few former Hindu converts to Chrisitanity in India how dangerous some of the hindu spiritual entities (demons) really are.
The whole Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) are is replete with religuous and occult techniques. We have the government spending hundreds of millions on researching religious fads and then trying to get them into public schools but we can't even discuss "intelligent Design." However, we can rename radiology, "energy medicine" and include Reiki and chakra therapy and Tai Chi with MRI's and sonograms. Go figure. For more info on TM see http://www.yogadangers.com. |

| I didn't know that backwards Nascar fans could even spell "Transcendental", yet not know that most, if not all, religions are the same. They just have different names and some practices. Let's see, the serious Christians are the "Snake Charmers". Prayer is different than meditation? Chanting names: Who will save me? "Jesus"!; Who's the man? "Jesus!" I just don't see the difference yet and I've been studying theology for the better part of my life. Foreigners fly planes into big buildings but citizens teach them how to. Well, they did pay for the lessons didn't they? |

Yes us Christians are just intolerant backwoods nuckledragging snake-handling neandrethals in need of serious orthodontia. Well I am a former Anglican and have an advanced degree from Carnegie-Mellon and was a published behavior therpast at Johns Hopkins. While traveling in South Africa I ministered at a church of almost two thousand former Hindus of east Indian descent (they were brought as slaves to Durban, South Africa.) The demonic oppression from these Hindu dieities is real. I saw people go into trances and slither around like snakes. Us Americans are above believing in this stuff but it is real. Most of members of the church were well educated and have even renounced vegetarianism in their efforts to break free of Hindu strongholds.
Nascar is ok but I prefer Formula 1. Roger |

I am from Scotland. When travelling around the USA last year I came across three so-called 'Christian Churches' where people chanted as a person was 'miraculously cured'. The person was in such a state I thought he had epilepsy. I have been told many churches in the USA use this technique as it is catchy and pulls in the crowds.
I would never, ever heed the paranoid rantings of a vain, American man of the cloth. |

It was more like a show, with chantings, performances, 'miracles' while you watch. I would never trust an American religious man - there is too much showbusiness and bigotry in his soul, and not enough love. |

| For you fundies out there that damn meditation as the devil's opening, I gently suggest scientific investigation of this deep modality. Man has been meditating since he first discovered he had a mind. Both good and evil lurk therein, but don't be afraid to look. You can start here, with the 844 page "Zen and the Mind" by James H. Austin, M.D. Then come back with some more studied and reasoned commentary. |

Meditation should be left to the religions that have done it for thousands of years. If you know nothing about it don't do it! And I agree with the previous text. Dude if you're going to preach to us on how smart you are, I would check your grammar first. Makes you wonder who the dumbass really is. |

| Jesus said the Kingdom of heaven was within. TM teaches going within. Jesus gave up all material things and people and food for 40 days thats a way to induce trance and go into deep meditative states. He said to keep your mind on only that which is good and holy. Crap sounds like Jesus was a positive thinking new age hippie to. almost all the ways of how to meditate are in the bible in many of the verses Christians ignore Love is a meditation ive only seen a few Christians practice and those aren't so vain and high headed even though they actually walk with God. If you try anything in this world and are fearful and not self sacrificing if you are afraid to die cause you aren't in love with people and God its very dangerous and the more spiritual the more dangerous cause it takes you more inside to were real strength is. |

6 million people practice TM in the world now, thats 0.1% of the population and thats only in the last 50 years or so that it has grown to that number. David Lynch is touring the world right now and getting support from school teachers everywhere to advocate the practice in schools for free, isn't that amazing? Jesus did not. his example to us was to be not tolerant, but to embrace all peoples and religions, he does. to suggest muslim or jewish or vedic holymen preach untruths because they are not christians is wrong. Tenzin Gatso, His Holiness, The Dali Lama, the reincarnated leader of the buddhist faith, declared, in a speech in Atlanta( Oct. 2007) " I am a 'Bu-Christian, I love JESUS CHRIST'. I am too. I guess Jesus, the Dali lama, and I are not boxed christians. Intolerance is ignorance and a disgraceful act. 'all religions give hope and healing,'- george harrison-1973 |

Religion is behind every war and burn 'em at the stake event throughout history. I can't believe that modern and rational human beings still cling to concocted stories that are thousands of years old and contain no empirical evidence to support them. "FAIRY TALES" Religion is a man made myth, spirituality is god given. The essence of soul lies in the quantum universe. Organized religion is a box trap of control. The pope is a clown. |

Dudes, you are scarey men! Did you ever read the Gospels of the New Testament? You should try it sometime. Who did Jesus criticize? Your attitude and comments are very un-Christ-like.
You are also very un-American. This is a country of free choice where people come to avoid religious persecution. You have no right to wish ill will on anybody. Besides, don't you know that what you give out comes back to you? Also, you should really research something before you criticize it. That would be the intelligent thing to do. Fear is based on misunderstanding. Have the courage to step forward and investigate. Steve was not insulting Jesus by calling him a hippie--it's you who have a bias against the lable. Finally, I do not fear God, he is Divine and All -Loving, All forgiving. It is people like you that I fear, with closed minds and little hearts. |

Any such group unfortunately attracts less than well people hoping to be healed. I myself while no fan of Maharishi (his teacher Guru Dev told him not to charge money for the knowledge he was given) have befriended many a TMer who's shown me honesty, loyalty and compassionate understanding.....the traits Jesus seemed big on. Tired of watching my TMer friends enjoy physical and mental youth and energy, I've decided to learn TM...........not join a cult.........not worship deities that are.........cute but kinda ridiculous.........Just learn a technique that was developed before hinduism existed. Satan has a greater hold, I think, on the paranoid and the blind fanatic than me. |

Dear friends and brothers,
Let us not bicker and quarrel amongst ourselves concerning these things. And let us not become slothful in our acquisition of knowledge. The mature Christian will test everything to see whether or not it is from God. Do not answer evil for evil concerning those who reproach us, but rather love them. "Love worketh no ill to his neighbor."--Paul Brothers, we can discern these things because of the Holy Spirit which lives in us; we have no need to be taught by anyone, if it be that the Spirit of God dwells in us. But clamor, evil speaking, malice, bursts of anger, and foolish arguments will be manifested in men who are already practicing evil, who delight in airing their own opinions, and do not walk in the God-kind of love. Let's not have excessive zeal without knowledge, brethren. I have heard reports that these techniques may be able to inform us in becoming quiet in our minds and bodies to hear from God, as well as many other benefits and I intend to read more on the subject. Again, we must ask God to give us wisdom concerning these things, because all things were created by Him and through Him. All live to Him. If you believe in Jesus Christ, his love dwells in you and you in Him. Remember when Abraham's servant was returning with Rebekkah to bring her to Isaac, "And Isaac came from the way of the well La-hai-roi; for he dwelt in the south country. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming."--(GEN:24:62-63) Since Isaac was of the houshold of faith, and walked before God as his father Abraham did, we shouldn't say that meditation in itself is evil. I don't want us to chant names of devils, but if this meditation can be used to improve my relationship with God through Jesus Christ, I am going to try it. |

Dr. Gold is correct. This practice is demonic in origin and should be avoided. It can be said without reservation that Maharishi is, at best, a hired hand who cares nothing for the sheep, and at worst, a liar and a thief.
If you are practicing these things and experiencing headaches, muscle aches, depression, anxiety, mental illness, or any other such symptom than HEAR ME NOW: Do not hearken unto their lies that you are de-stressing and that you should stay with the program. They are lying to you. Get out of that practice, repent, and ask Jesus Christ to be the Lord of your life. With him there is abundance of all these things promised by "Maharishi," this alleged, "Great seer of truth." Do not believe them when they tell you that there is something spiritually wrong with you for leaving the program. Flee! Get out! I demand, declare, and claim supernatural protection in the Name of Jesus Christ. Let all who oppose him be confounded and ashamed. |
