Lyrica Chronic Side Effects?

posted by Dena Murray on 23 May 2007 at 2:22 pm

I took lyrica a year and a half ago for Migraines and nerve pain. Although it worked to reduce my pain. Within several weeks I gained 10 lbs and swelled all over my body. It was difficult to move my joints without pain. I was taken off the medicine but continue to have episodes of tremendous pain and swelling even though I have not taken the medicine in over a year. I can't say for sure it was the Lyrica, but Drs are unable to explain my symptoms even today.

Please post if you have had simular symptoms

Lyrica

I just posted comments on one of the other lyrica opinions on the full opinions list. What about your blood pressure? I suspect you ended up on blood pressure meds if you took it that long. I suspect this new med is a deceiver.

Lyrica Residual Side Effects
posted by Wendy Alann Copeland on 03 Nov 2009 at 11:45 am
I was on Lyrica and Cymbalta simultaneously over a year ago for fibromyalgia & depression. I lost my job & health insurance & so was off both meds for a year. I was able to get the Lyrica again for free(by this time my depression & fibro symptoms were incapacitating) I was on Lyrica only for a little over a month when I found I was having severe side effects. My feet & torso were swollen, I was having numbness in one or both feet for a full day at a time so of course could barely walk or drive. Friends said I was behaving bizarrely, and it seemed I was having joint pain, esp in the knees; also lower back pain--not muscular or neurological, but alot like when I've had a kidney infection. I weaned myself off the Lyrica, and 10 days later I'm having these same residual side effects. In fact, they seem to have gotten much worse, and I'm wondering how long this could last. The pharmacists I spoke to did not seem to be aware of these as possible side effects EVEN THO THEY WERE LISTED ON THE PATIENT SIDE EFFECTS PRINTOUT. I find it alarming that they weren't aware of these, and I feel that not enough is known about Lyrica for it to be used safely. I'm being put back on Cymbalta again by a different doctor ([sychiatrist) starting next week. He can offer no opinion on the Lyrica, and the doctors who prescribed it before are not what I'd consider "fibro-friendly" doctors. I suspect that my previous partial success with pain relief (over a year ago) was due to the Cymbalta, not the Lyrica. Cymbalta is used for depression & is also indicated for fibromyalgia.

Is there anyone who knows how long this may go on? It's frightening to me to read blogs from patients who are experiencing these residual side effects even a year after being off Lyrica. I need more feedback from patients as I feel many doctors and pharmacists are unaware of the problems some experience or are not giving it much credence or thought.

These things were mentioned in the blurb that came with the pills.....But am happier now me and the Pregabalin - Lyrica have parted company!!
