11th Tysabri Patient Develops PML

posted by Lauren on 29 July 2009 at 2:06 pm

This is probably one of the most unbiased, accurate, and well-balanced articles I've read to date as it relates to Tysabri and the possible link to PML. In addition, eight out of the last 10 patients (that we know of-excluding the latest patient) were all on very strong immune suppressants prior to Tysabri therapy (these included azathioprine, methotrexate, Novantrone/mitoxantrone, & IVIG therapy). It is unclear from the 6th & the 11th patients' past medical histories of prior treatments as they have not been made available to all of us.

Nevertheless, this is one of the most informative articles I have read recently with regard to Tysabri and the possible link to PML.

Lauren (MS patient for 34+ years and current Tysabri patient that recently completed her 36th infusion)

I respect your opinion, having been on Tysabri for so long...I wonder about the 6th and 11th patient histories also; I also wonder how we are to be "updated" if not by the Tysabri website? (Lisa, 18 months on Tysabri)

Where Can We Get The Information Now...
posted by Karen on 26 Aug 2009 at 6:43 am
I just had my 4th infusion...reading about all of the cases from people on it for 2 or more years makes me nervous about staying on the drug for too long. I liked the convenience of being able to get the PML information on the Biogen website...where are we going to get it now???

Ms Patients Need Information On PML
posted by James pattee on 01 Sept 2009 at 5:40 pm
I lost my wife to PML in December of 2008. Because we both made the decision to go on this drug we felt as that the PML risk was low enough. Now there have been (7) more confirmed cases of PML thru June 09, with three cases in June alone.

I believe that all MS patients on TYSABRI should receive at least quarterly updates via the touch program to keep them fully informed on PML cases. In addition, BIOGEN must continue to study all PML cases in hopes of determining any additional risks. I also see changes to the Touch program to hopefully limit the risk.

Education and communication is our lifeline to information whether it be good news or bad. Then those on TYSABRI can make their own fully informed decisions.

Thank You
