Very Low Nicotine Cigarettes
posted by VocalEK on 03 Nov 2009 at 2:54 pmIt would be very interesting to see lung function tests before using these cigarettes and after six weeks. In the past, more lung damage has been done by cigarettes with lower nicotine levels because smokers inhale more deeply. Also, even though the cessation results at 6 weeks are slightly higher than for the lozenges, these cigarettes should not be approved for use unless it can be shown that the 1-year cessation rate is significantly higher. Even though the researchers are excited about a 43% success rate, there is a product on the market that has an 80% success rate and that does not deliver tar, carbon monoxide, heavy metals, and all of the toxins and carcinogens found in smoke. The products deliver vaporized nicotine. These products need to stay on the market so those who have stopped smoking by using them can stay quit and so that more smokers have the opportunity to quit using a product that won't ruin their lungs. Oh, the products are commonly referred to as "electronic cigarettes."
