Overstated, And Probably Misleading

The article did not demonstrate this to be true, and at best established a correlation between these states. The data from studies on peroxynitrite, and the hydroxyl radical - a metabolite of hydrogen peroxide, show that an imbalance in oxidant/antioxidant states tilted towards a pro-oxidant condition is positively correlated with the development of diseases as diverse as allergy, atherosclerosis, diabetes, IBD, Fibromyalgia, and on and on... A state of chronic inflammation (which increases nitric oxide production), an overuse of COX inhibitors, and an inadequate intake of omega-3 fatty acids promotes leukocyte migration into the tissues, and the release of pro-inflammatory immunomodulators which SIGNIFICANTLY worsens the problem. Antioxidants have repeatedly proven to be a very useful and healthy part of a therapeutic approach to a wide variety of health problems. To agitate for stopping their use in prevention of disease based on the results of this one study strikes me as an attempt to overstate what may have been a good point - the need for balance, for the purpose of gaining increased media coverage that resulted from taking a contrary position to that which is growing out of the preponderance of scientific data emerging in well planned and conducted research studies.
