Ambien is addictive, hence...

posted by Dr. Earl Spillman on 04 Jan 2006 at 9:18 pm

As I read all these anti Lunesta opinions I realise the addiction to Ambien is much greater than I thought. I am seeing many patients who resist Lunesta, quite simply, because they are addicted to Ambien.

The taste is irrelevant. My proof. Patients who were never on Ambien take to Lunesta like a duck to water. Those who had been on Ambien, however, are doing all they can to get back on to it. THEY ARE ADDICTED.

how do we get off the meds?
posted by Ron on 05 Jan 2006 at 5:41 pm
I'm a fairly recent insomniac having started having problems falling asleep last August or so at the age of 41. My doctor gave me a prescription for 30 Ambien in September. I found that it helped me fall asleep but I still woke up during the night. I then went into the over the counter meds like tylenol pm and found that they are fairly good at getting me to sleep but leave me with a hangover the next day. I then went back to my doc who gave me a bunch of lunesta samples to try in advance of going to a sleep clinic. I tried lunesta for a couple weeks and found that most of the time I fell asleep fast and slept longer than ambien.

I had a full blown sleep study which found that I had very mild apnea but nothing that would prevent me from getting to sleep. The sleep doctor prescribed a mild anti-depressant (which I can't recall the name) which I haven't filled yet. I'm going back to clinic today to get a second opinion from another doctor.

I would really like to get off the meds all together.. what are the chances?

I Can't Get Off Ambien
posted by Marsha on 11 Aug 2009 at 7:01 am
I've been taking Ambien for 2 yrs again. I got off it before, but now can't seem to get off the crap. I go to 2 doctors to get it because my insurance won't pay but for 2 days every 30 days, so I go to another doctor to give me an extra prescription that I pay for with cash to supplement the days my ins. won't pay for. When I try to come off it, I stay awake for days and have horrible nightmares. I took a week off work to come off it only to go back on with panic that I won't sleep! It's like I need drug rehab for sleeping pills that aren't supposed to be addictive!! Help!

Ambien

This is the best ever. I did the same thing as the lady who took the week off from work to get off it and nothing happens. I just cannot sleep, I pray, I go to the doctors and nothing like the ambien and it has to be the little white looking one, not the generic the original one. Lunesta is like drinking water.
