Bayer has always been associated with fast pain relief for a variety of ailments having introduced their aspirin in 1899, but this week the company pushes innovation and announces the launch of Bayer Advanced Aspirin, which has clinically proven to relieve tough pain twice as fast as previous Bayer Aspirin tablets.

Two pain efficacy studies were conducted to evaluate Bayer Advanced Aspirin 500 mg and 325 mg tablets; both demonstrated faster onset of pain relief compared to the previous Bayer Aspirin tablet. The results demonstrated that Bayer Advanced Aspirin provides meaningful pain relief twice as fast as previous Bayer Aspirin tablets.

Barton Warner, VP, Marketing and New Business, Bayer HealthCare comments:

“With Bayer Advanced Aspirin, Bayer is introducing the greatest innovation in aspirin since the discovery of aspirin. We have applied our new Pro-Release Technology, which was invented right here at Bayer, to a tried-and-true molecule, to make an aspirin that provides pain relief twice as fast as before.”

A national survey in 2005 of 1,204 American consumers found that 44% of respondents suffered from acute pain in the previous two weeks, which in essence, equates to approximately 45 million adults. Advanced Aspirin was developed with the objective of providing a faster onset of pain relief than previous Bayer Aspirin tablets giving consumers a new and better aspirin for tough pain.

Bayer’s aspirin business continues to grow, and had double-digit, year-on-year sales growth in Q1 2011. Yet, while Bayer continues to be a leader in the category, for many U.S. consumers, Bayer Aspirin is primarily synonymous with cardiovascular use.

Aspirin reduces the production of hormone-like substances called prostaglandins, which are produced in tissues throughout the body. Prostaglandins have many functions. They are part of the chemical messenger systems involved in feeling pain, fever, the redness and swelling that can accompany injuries, and even in contracting certain muscles, for example, the uterus. Since aspirin lowers the amount of prostaglandins, it can help alleviate conditions like pain, fever and the discomfort of menstrual cramps.

Aspirin also reduces production of substances involved in the early stages of our body’s blood clotting mechanism. This is why doctors may prescribe aspirin, as part of a regimen, for appropriate individuals to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke. Wes E. Cetnarowski, M.D., Senior Vice President, Bayer Global Research and Development, Bayer HealthCare adds:

“When it comes to effective pain management, speed of relief is as critical as the product’s strength. The Pro-Release Technology helps to speed up disintegration of the tablet, absorption into the bloodstream and, most importantly, time to pain relief. With new, faster-acting Bayer Advanced Aspirin, millions of Americans can return to or keep up with their daily activities by managing pain quickly.”

No OTC analgesic has been proven to be more effective than aspirin. In fact, a dosage of two Extra-Strength Bayer Aspirin has been proven to be as effective on tough pain as the most prescribed dosage of Tylenol with Codeine #3 in headache and dental pain studies. It is a fact that aspirin is a great choice for active people, whether you’ve got sore knees from gardening or a throbbing elbow from a tough game of tennis. And only aspirin provides both highly effective for pain relief and additional benefits when taken under the direction of a doctor – the ability to reduce the inflammation and swelling of arthritis, prevent a second heart attack or stroke, and even save lives when taken during a suspected heart attack.

Bayer Advanced Aspirin is now available at major retailers nationwide in Regular and Extra Strength doses at 325 mg and 500 mg.
