The number of children in South Wales schools infected with E.coli has risen to 68. The total number of schools affected has also risen, to 27.

Health officials have described the rise as ‘dramatic and discouraging’.

John Tudor and Son, Bridgend, a meat supplier, has withdrawn its supplies of cooked meats. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is investigating the link between E.coli and meat deliveries to the affected schools. All schools that have received meat from this supplier have been told to remove it.

According to the Food Standards Agency, it has widened the investigation into the outbreak.

The FSA has asked all local authorities to contact any establishment that has bought meat from John Tudor and Son, Bridgend. These could be medium-sized caterers, local shops, delicatessens and pubs.

The FSA says it has been unable to establish the company’s full customer list, therefore it is asking local authorities to help get the message through.
