Severe Forms of West Nile Virus

West Nile encephalitis and West Nile meningitis. They affect the nervous system. Encephalitis means inflammation of the brain, meningitis means inflammation of the membrane around the spinal cord and the brain.

Milder Forms of West Nile Virus

West Nile fever. There is no evidence of neuroinvasion. Actual numbers are probably higher than reported numbers. Only people who go and see a doctor about it are likely to be reported.
