Foundayo (orforglipron) is a once-daily pill that helps you feel full and slows down how fast your stomach empties.

The amount of weight you can lose depends on:

  • your starting weight
  • how long you take the drug
  • your dose
  • how consistently you stick to healthy lifestyle habits

Researchers conducted two 72-week clinical trials to see how well Foundayo works.

Trial 1: Adults without diabetes

In Trial 1, those taking the highest daily dose of 17.2 milligrams (mg) lost an average of 11.1% of their body weight, or about 25.2 pounds. People on lower doses still lost weight, but the results were not as high, with the 5.5 mg dose resulting in about 7.4% weight loss.

Trial 2: Adults with Type 2 diabetes

In Trial 2, the weight loss was slightly lower but still significant. At the 17.2 mg dose, these participants lost about 9.6% of their body weight, or 21.1 pounds.

In these trials, everyone was asked to follow a reduced-calorie diet and exercise for at least 150 minutes per week.

People in the placebo group (those who only did diet and exercise without the medication) lost only about 2.1% to 2.5% of their weight.

This suggests that pairing Foundayo with diet and exercise is more effective at helping people lose weight than diet and exercise alone.

Improving your health isn’t about losing weight as quickly as possible. In fact, losing weight too quickly could slow your metabolism and mean you lose too much muscle. Follow these tips to lose weight gradually and build lifestyle habits you can maintain.

Aim for steady weight loss

Aim to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. Losing more might mean you’re restricting your calories so much that your body isn’t getting the nutrition it needs to work properly.

Make every bite count

You’ll likely eat less food on Foundayo, so it’s vital to make every bite as nutritious as possible. Protein from beans, seeds, nuts, and animal sources help you feel full and build muscle. Fiber and micronutrients from plant foods help with digestion and have many other health-boosting effects.

Drink plenty

As digestion slows down on Foundayo, there’s more time for the colon to absorb water from your stool, making stools hard and difficult to pass. Drink hydrating fluids throughout the day to keep things moving.

Use other measurements

Often, the number on the scale doesn’t reflect the progress you’re making and it can be disheartening when your weight stays the same. Try to celebrate your success when your clothes fit better, you can be active without feeling out of breath, or your waist circumference reduces.
