Purple and Nectar are two popular mattress brands that offer mattresses both online and in stores.

This article discusses the two brands, their similarities and differences, and which products they offer.

Both Purple and Nectar sell mattresses mostly online, although they also have products in stores across the United States.

Both companies offer mattresses that use memory foam. They also offer home delivery, with the option to have a person’s old mattress removed.

Although the companies offer some similar features, there are also some differences, discussed below.

Purple

According to the company’s web page, Purple mattresses have a 2- to 4-inch-wide gel grid at the top layer of each of their mattresses. The grid acts as a support system for every sleeping position. The grid’s design also allows the sleeper to sleep cooler throughout the night.

Purple mattresses use either memory foam or memory foam and springs as the support layers under their gel grid. The memory foam and springs provide additional support and comfort.

Purple have three different mattresses that range in price and support:

  • Purple Mattress: It is their basic, original model.
  • Purple Hybrid: It uses memory foam and springs under the grid.
  • Purple Hybrid Premier: It offers a 3- to 4-inch (in) grid with coils underneath for additional support.

A person has 100 days to return the mattress if not satisfied. The company also offer a 10-year warranty on all mattresses.

Nectar

According to their website, Nectar offer purely memory foam mattresses made up of several different foam layers.

The top layers provide a cooling effect and some support. The middle layer provides some resilience when the sleeper shifts positions, while the bottom layer of foam offers the sleeper the primary support.

Nectar mattresses come with a lifetime warranty, called Forever Warranty, as well as a 365-night return policy.

Nectar offer two mattresses:

  • The Nectar Mattress
  • The Nectar Lush Mattress

When choosing a mattress, people may want to consider the following factors:

Sleeping positions

People may prefer different sleeping positions throughout their lives: on the back, side, stomach, or a combination of all three.

Both Purple and Nectar claim that their mattresses support all sleeping positions.

Purple state that the gel layer on the top of each of their mattresses provides adequate support for all sleeping positions, including side, back, and stomach.

Nectar do not specifically claim it supports all sleeping positions, but they state they have figured out a good balance for all sleepers. This could imply that any sleeping position will work on their mattresses.

Pressure points

Pressure points are areas of the body that will bear the most amount of weight during sleep.

According to a 2017 study, the most common body parts that experience pressure during sleep include the shoulders, buttocks, and back.

The study further indicates that sleeping on a mattress that does not support the pressure points can result in pain or discomfort and poor sleep quality.

Both Nectar and Purple claim the gel, memory foam, or coils in their mattresses will take pressure off a person’s body. Both companies get good reviews, indicating that users enjoy their mattresses.

Weight

A person’s weight can affect how they sleep. Extra weight can put additional pressure on different parts of the body when a person is lying down. Memory foam, which both Purple and Nectar use, responds to a person’s weight.

A person carrying less body weight may find a foam-based mattress less comfortable because they will not feel properly supported throughout their body. This could make Purple’s gel top layer more appealing to people carrying less body weight.

Aches and pains

Participants of a small-scale 2010 study reported better sleep quality and reduced back pain after using a mattress that suited their particular sleeping position.

In another study, researchers found that new bedding systems increased sleep quality and reduced back discomfort.

Both Nectar and Purple claim their mattresses improve sleep quality. However, anyone experiencing chronic aches and pain that do not get better after a change of a mattress should seek medical attention.

Purple and Nectar both offer mattresses made using foam. Both offer long trial periods and extended warranties, so people can test their mattresses before choosing the one that suits their unique needs best.
